What It Is Like Being DG

“What it was like being D.G.” – Speech to RC of SunshineBefore I answer that.
Firstly
What is the Role of The District Governor
The good book says: Your role as district governor is to further the Object of Rotary by providing leadership, motivation, and supervision to the clubs of your district.
As governor, you will work under the general supervision of the RI Board of Directors.
Our Aim: Is for the DG to sustain and increase the organization’s success by fostering success at the club level.
Your achievements as district governor will depend on the time, effort, and commitment you put into your year as governor-elect and then the year of office as DG.
District Governor Responsibilities
Your responsibilities as district governor are:
• Fostering continuity by working with past, current, and incoming district
Leader’s to support effective clubs,
• Strengthening existing clubs

Presidents to establish realistic membership goals for each club in the district
• Organizing new clubs
• Supporting ‘The Rotary Foundation’ with respect to program participation
and financial contributions.
• Promoting friendly relations among the clubs and between the clubs and RI

Well that is what we are tasked to do however meeting those requirements are somewhat difficult.
At the outset I must state that the job of DG is very demanding; and at times very difficult however, it is extremely rewarding. I would not have missed it for the world.
In the District You are the only ‘Officer of Rotary International’. At times it is quite difficult sometimes lonely when having to make many administrative management decisions required.

Toast to Rotary International at RC of Werribee 42nd Charter Anniversary

Toast to Rotary International (long) 24th Aug 10RC of Werribee 42nd Charter Anniversary

President

Thank you President Paul for the opportunity to propose the “Toast to Rotary International” this wonderful organization that we all belong to.

Charter Anniversary functions such as this evenings “Bigger than Texas” give us the opportunity to celebrate the RC of Werribee’s great history and its involvement in the many programs and projects over the last 42 years. Nights like tonite also give us the opportunity to look to the future and what may lie ahead for this very successful club.

I am thrilled to see that Pres Paul and the social committee have linked tonight’s celebration of our past achievements with this year’s theme of ‘Building Communities Bridging Continents’, a truly international theme.

By recognising and supporting DG Iven Mackay’s 2010-11 club to club, District to District “Texas Connection” partnership program this club has shown that we are a truly committed members of Rotary International.

Being members of this international organisation with its humanitarian, intercultural and educational programs designed to further our aim of achieving world understanding and peace, is indeed a great privilege.

Of course no toast to Rotary International would be complete without reference to our Foundation and the wonderful work it does in awarding the many grants including matching Grants, with the 3H, Health, Hunger and Humanity grants, and to the individual scholarships like the World Peace and Ambassadorial scholarships.

As an example of our members commitment our own PDG Ian Knight is in Timor Leste right now on a Foundation sponsored on Vocational Training Team looking at possible Maternal and Childhood Health programs; another outstanding achievement for Rotary International and its members.

In recognition of this wonderful organisation that we belong to could I please ask Rotarians and guests to charge your glasses and be upstanding and join me in the Toast to Rotary International.
Rotary International -Thank you
